Monday eBay Roundup (VI): Fox and Unicorn Special

Greetings everyone!

I promised I'd talk more about Fox and Unicorn, and I try to fulfill my promises :) So here it is, and given it's Monday and they are on eBay, what better way to review their stuff than through my weekly Monday roundup?

But first thing first. Who are Fox and Unicorn? Well, I don't speak german (yet!), but I think they are some kind of German prop house. This is their website (not in english):

I do know though that they have a good array of Xena original props, acquired during the Turner Auction. And also that they are very nice with inquiries, so I invite you to contact them if you fancy any of their items!

Talking about items, this is what they have on their eBay store:

   > Material: Leather. Fleece. Metal.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 279 € / $383.71 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: Nice looking norse style gauntlets. They could come from either Xena or Hercules (this was typical in the Turners Auction - they sold a lot of uncategorized props). Pricey, like all items from the Fox and Unicorn, but they accept offers, which means they are flexible to a certain point.

   > Material: Wood. Leather. Metal. Feathers.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 299.80 € / $412.31 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: This is a very nice prop, that let us see how all the stabbing and arrowing worked on the series. Very interesting to analyze, to say the least!

   > Material: Cord. Leather. Metal. Seashells.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 69.95 € / $96.20 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: Not my kind of item, but I know a few people who love jewelry and Amazon items, so here it is, just for you guys! More affordable than the previous two, that's for sure.

   > Material: Leather. Beads. Stones.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 59.95 € / $82.45 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: Another necklace, with a different style. I will omit the "opinion" field in further items like this, there's really no much to say about them.

   > Character: Odin
   > Material: Horn/Bone. Resin.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 490 € / $673.90 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: Now this is VERY cool! Thanks to my good ally Google Translate we can know what the description says: "Unique - unique piece! Odin's Horn approx 34cm long drinking horn with golden dragon. Made of real horn, the dragon is made from resin artfully. Suitable only for decoration, not for use as a drinking horn" We also know this comes specifically from Odin, which reduces the search to a handful of episodes. I'm thinking it's more likely it comes from Xena, as there are some scenes of Odin feasting at Valhalla. But if you find for sure, please let me know.

   > Material: Metal. Beads. Stones.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 49.95 € / $68.70 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Material: Metal.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 59.95 € / $82.45 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Character: Amazon.
   > Material: Leather. Fur. Beads. Metal?
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 1,700 € / $2,338 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: This is interesting as well - a full Amazon costume! It seems to include some jewelry and a mask (which makes me think of the Greek Amazons, as they were the only ones seen with masks). It probably belonged to a background Amazon, most likely unnamed. Cool set, even if we don't know for sure the character.

   > Material: Cord. Leather. Metal. Stones.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 69.95 € / $96.20 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Material: Leather. Metal. Fabric.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 249 € / $342.45 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: Nice looking piece. I think I've seen it somewhere, though I can't place it yet. Anyhow, this looks very Xena-esque or Hercules-esque, they used this kind of pieces A LOT.

   > Material: Leather. Metal. Cord.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 449 € / $617.51 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: Unknown character. They don't say it's an Amazon item here, so I guess it's not. Maybe from the Hordes? Or some other female warrior? Are we sure this is female at all? Anyway, the piece looks nice. Leather crafters at Renaissance Pictures were more artists than artisans!

   > Material: Leather. Metal. Fabric.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 249 € / $342.45 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: This vest seems to come from Hercules (though it looks to me more from Young Hercules than H:TLJ). Description says: "Very high quality fabric, the edges are sewn with genuine leather. The vest can also be with a leather strap lace up front (Not included) Size M - L"

   > Character: Iphicles (Kevin Smith)
   > Material: Leather. Metal. Fabric.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 790 € / $1,086.49 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: The last item are a pair of leather gloves that belonged to Iphicles/King Iphicles aka Hercules Brother, played by Kevin Smith. Quite expensive, surely because they were Kevin's. There are no many Kevin Smith worn props around. Certainly, a little jewel.

These are all the items Fox and Unicorn have on eBay. They have even more on their website (link at the beginning of the post), so just go and take a look!

Talk to you soon, people!

Xena at the Smithsonian (part II)

Hello again!

Do you remember the Xena costume at the Smithsonian Museum? Well, I just found a HUGE image of it, so I thought about sharing it with you.

>> EDIT: As updated in the original entry too, this full Xena costume is actually on display at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle, on loan from the Smithsonian. Thanks Ariel!

Here it is! Enjoy!

And just in case you can't see it at full resolution, I leave you the link too:

Look at this!

Hey all!

This is so great I had to share! Jo Marriott has created an incredibly cool Xena Mini Breastplate Necklace charm! Look at it:

It's made of leather, and looks just like the real thing. If you like it, you can purchase it at Jo's Etsy shop. Here's the link:

Stay tuned guys!

Westside Studios Props sale (I)

Hey guys!

More news coming from New Zealand! Check this out:

It seems that Robert Baldock (65, director of Westside Studios and a veteran of the props business for 20 years) is closing his business, and will be selling about 600 props. His collection includes items from productions such as Xena, Hercules, Dark Knight, The Tribe and many other NZ based series.

An initial sale will be held by tender in Wellington's Shelly Bay (where he's been supplying props and equipment to the film and television industry), with a giant garage sale to follow. Auctions will include items as quaint as five coffins, a life-size gorilla, a hip's wheel, imitation guns, a spacesuit, a devil's head, an Aztec or a 300-year-old Bible.

The inventory is here, but doesn't list provenance:

Very interesting, I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Note: Many thanks to RPF member Dynofiend for the heads-up!

Monday eBay Roundup (V)

Hey again guys!

It's Monday, so time for our weekly eBay roundup.

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: 486/500
   > COA: Not mentioned
   > Seller: marysuec25
   > Price: $500 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: This seller has posted several Creation Ent replicas. This is the first: a late number of the Y&Y replica. Note that, as happened last week, this chakram will have the NZ stamp on the blade.

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: 162/1000
   > COA: Not mentioned
   > Seller: marysuec25
   > Price: $350 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: As of late there have been several framed sais around eBay. This one in particular is not the cheapest one nor the one with the lowest number, but still, cool replica.

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: 205/1000
   > COA: Not mentioned
   > Seller: marysuec25
   > Price: $350 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: I hadn't seen one of these in a while. Cool piece too, but compared to the rest (and the prices Creation replicas originally sold for) this one is expensive. As a side note, this breast dagger has the highest number I've ever encountered.

   > Character: Gabrille / Gabrielle's stunt
   > Material: Foam. Leather. Twine.
   Papers: Not mentioned
   Seller: marysuec25
Price: $150 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: Apart from the above mentioned Creation replicas, this seller has listed an original prop staff fro the show. There's no mention of any kind of COA, but assuming it's real I'm very positive this is a stunt staff. Why? Several reasons, but mainly two. First, it's made of foam - a material only used for stunt fights. And second, it has a rough unfinished look, which means this prop was not meant to be seen onscreen. Overall, it looks heavily used and not too well conserved, but it's cheap and if it's original it could look cool hanging on any collector's wall.

   > Character: Yodoshi Army from S6 "Friend in Need I&II"
   > Material: Resin. Aluminum.
Papers: Auction fliers from last purchase.
   Seller: bellator95
   Price: $250 plus shipping

   > Opinion: Interesting props. They look somehow imperfect and present some wear and tear. Seller says one of the katana is one piece with the sheath (doesn't come out) and it's made of resin. The other doesn't have a sheath, and it's made of resin and aluminum (i'm guessing there's a metal rod inside). Not my cup of tea, but maybe someone will like them.

   > Character: Gabrielle's Army from S6 "Friend in Need I&II"
   > Material: Resin. Aluminum.
Papers: Auction fliers from last purchase.
   Seller: bellator95
   Price: $250 plus shipping

   > Opinion: Same seller, almost same product. So, same opinion.

Once again, this is it!

Stay tuned, because today I received my Creation replica staff and I'll be reviewing it soon.

Good collecting!

BREAKING NEWS: 20th Anniversary NZ Auction

To all Xena collectors!

I've known this info for some time now, but today it's been made official: a Xena props/costumes auction will take in Auckland (New Zealand) to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the series.

The 20th Ann. Auction will happen in February 2015, supposedly at the same time than the 2015 NZ Xena Convention (14-15-16 February).

Sneak Peek: Auction will include a full Xena costume
and a full Argo (Xena's mare) equipment.

This is the Facebook link to the event:

I will make available more info and a list of the props and costumes to be auctioned as soon as I get the green lights from the organizers. They promise it will be the biggest Xena auction since Turners or It's a Wrap!

Spread the word!

Monday eBay Roundup (IV)

Hello people!

Another week has passed :) It always amazes me how fast time flies!

Today I bring you some new juicy pieces:

   > Character: Xena in S5 "Fallen Angel"
   > Material: Silk. Fabric. Resin.
   Papers: Includes COA
   Seller: kikivader
   Price: $3,157 plus shipping

   > Opinion: Gorgeous gorgeous piece! My friend Kelly is selling her authentic full archangel costume, a very rare and iconic costume. It comes complete (except for the wings) and the set includes the original sword prop. The costume has been screen-worn, and thus presents some minor wear and tear, but overall its look is fantastic. Pricey, sure (costumes always are), but a great opportunity to own a very rare piece from the show.

   > Manufacturer: Marto Swords of Spain
   > Number: Not numbered
   > COA: Not mentioned
   > Seller: philalldridge
   > Price: GBP 299 / $496.49 plus shipping

   > Opinion: It's not the first nor the second time a sword like this has been posted. It most likely won't be the last either. My opinion remains the same, but the seller it's worth noting. Phil is a great and renamed Xena collector, and has been doing this longer than most of us. Great guy, and his items are always pristine, you can be reassured.

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: 353/500
   > COA: Included
   > Seller: fj4mikey
   > Price: $750 plus shipping (only USA) or Make Offer

   > Opinion: You know I'm a fan of Creation chakram replicas. My chakram comparisons (specially part II) are very clear about it. This is a Second Generation design, with a first-design shadowbox. Beautiful piece, and accept offers, but ships only within US.

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: 381/500
   > COA: Included
   > Seller: natekehoe
   > Price: $700 plus shipping, or Make Offer

   > Opinion: Same than before, but with subtle changes. Third Generation chakram with a third generation shadowbox (a rarer model). Accuracy it's at the same level, 4,5/5, so really high.

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: 415/500
   > COA: Not mentioned
   > Seller: natekehoe
   > Price: $400 plus shipping, or Make Offer

   > Opinion: From the very same seller, also a Y&Y chakram replica. Note that it DOESN'T include a shadowbox (only a wall-mount), and the blade has engraved the NZ stamp. Nevertheless, it's a cool piece to have (and I know a few people after one of these :p ).

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: ???/500
   > COA: Not mentioned
   > Seller: athena1925
   > Price: $399.99 plus shipping, or Make Offer

   > Opinion: A last hour addition! An unnumbered Xena sword by Creation Entertainment, like the one seen in the Sword Comparisons or in My Collection. Judging from the paint job, I'd say this is a late number (the earlier number usually have a more careful and layered paint in the hilt). Nevertheless, it's a very accurate replica, and more than worth noting here.

And this is it for this week!

Have a nice day, you all!

Monday eBay Roundup (III)

Hello guys!

New Monday, new props! For a moment I thought there wouldn't be much new to talk about, but then, during the week-end...bang! :) New stuff!

So let's see, what do we have this week on eBay?

   > Manufacturer: Icons Prop Replicas
   > Number: 160/5000
   > COA: All papers and COAs included
   > Seller: armynavymarinesurplus
   > Price: $700 plus shipping

   > Opinion: Number 160? You again? hehe We already saw this particular Icons chakram here. So, same opinion. But of course, if back then it was expensive, now yet more. Keep reading.

   > Manufacturer: Icons Prop Replicas
   > Number: 540/5000
   > COA: All papers and COAs included
   > Seller: janddt
   > Price: $395 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: Another Icons chakram (and I thought they were rare!). This one is a later number, but it's boxed (like the one we saw here) and it comes with the full set of papers. It's an exceptionally late number, actually - it must have been close to the end of the series. We saw normally later numbers tended to have thicker and blacker contour lines, but this seems to be an exception. MUCH cheaper than the previous one, but ships only with US.

   > Character: Gabrielle and Amarice in S5 "Chakram"
   > Material: Resin? Ceramic? Cork. String.
   Papers: Includes Turners COA
   Seller: beyond_collectibles
   Price: $69.99 plus shipping

   > Opinion: Seller's name is Victoria. She's a very nice collector. She's going through a difficult moment for several reasons, and she's selling off her collection. This is a good opportunity to get a prop from a very iconic episode, S5 "Chakram". These are the bombs she and Amarice threw at the guards of the Chakram Temple. Neat!

   > Character: Xena/Stunt
   > Material: Leather. Cord. Bronze.
   Papers: Includes Turners COA
   Seller: beyond_collectibles
   Price: $719.99 plus shipping

   > Opinion: I ignore if these were worn by Lucy or a stunt double. Probably the second, it's way more possible. Anyway, Victoria provides the Turners number (PROP# 1549967374) and the COA. Remember you can check Turners original auction list here.

   > Character: Romans?
   > Material: Leather.
   Papers: COA from SPLW?
   Seller: granny.s_garage_sale
   Price: $15 plus shipping

   > Opinion: I know the one in the picture is not this exact scabbard. But it reminds me of it. This is the typical shape of a Roman scabbard. Not sure though. Anyway, it's a very cheap prop, it might interest someone.

This is all for now!

I'm working on several posts, and I'd like some feedback from you. What would you like to see?

Remember to "follow" the blog if you like it!
