The Turners Auction (II)

Hello everybody!

How are you? I've been meaning to share something with you for a time: all the different photos that I've been "recollecting" from the Internet of the Turners Auction over the years.

As I mentioned on my previous post about it, the Turners Auction was a huge prop sale that took place in New Zealand in 2001. It was the first official Xena auction ever organized, and it also included props from other Renaissance Pictures shows, such as Hercules, Young Hercules, Cleopatra 2525 and Jack of All Trades.

Unlike the Yahoo / It's a Wrap! auction, I've never seen official photos of the pieces one by one. Only by lots, filling every corner of several warehouses. This is the map:

Anyhow, without further delay, here are the photos that I've been able to scavenge (most courtesy of New Xenaland). I hope you like them!

First come all the photos concerning props and atrezzo elements:

Top Left: Can you spot the sais?
Amazon swords (left) and Gab staffs (right
Bottom Right: Xena's coffin, before it was cut in pieces!

Bottom right: Katanas from AFIN
Is that a huge Ares head?
Now let's take a look at all the costumes:

Bottom Left: Look how many roman costumes!

Bottom Left: Are those Hercules pants?
Top Left: Valkyrie costumes!

That's all I've got --but if you happen to have other photos from the Turners Auction and feel like sharing, it'll be great to take a look at them!

Happy week!

ATTENTION ATTENTION Xenites!

The 20th Anniversary NZ Auction (including props and crew gifts from Hercules, Xena, Jack of All Trades, Legend of the Seeker and LOTR) is happening NOW! RIGHT NOW!

Screen-cap of some of the items being auctioned.

About the items being auctioned, Anna Low (person in charge and main responsible of the 20th Anniv Auction) says the following:

www.annalowhorseproductions.com
We have been using the costumes from the Turners auction in 2000. The stunt doubles, the riding doubles and the horse costumes. We will be auctioning off most of our costumes, and crew gifts from us and other local film and TV crew March 2015. All items will be hand picked and verified by Anna Low as authentic and will come with a COA from the person selling the item. All items will come from cast and crew.

Each Pacific Renaissance item has a COA (Certificate of Authenticity) and copy of original Turners Auction receipt. Also for auction are 'crew gifts' - given to the crew who worked on the productions. Including an AWESOME crew chakram like the one we saw here.

The crew chakram being auctioned.

If you're interested in bidding, know that you must post your bid for each item in the photo's comments. Higher bidder wins when the auction closes on May 1st, at Midnight NZST. Shipping fees will apply.

Comments including further information on the items are also welcomed.

Spread the news and good luck!

"Monday" eBay Roundup (XVII)

Hello all!

I know, I know! It's not Monday :p But yesterday I had NO time to finish this up, so this week we have a "Tuesday eBay Roundup" :)

- AMAZON BEADS

   > Character: Amazon/s
   > Material: Beads. Twine.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: lady.stark
Price: $25 (or Buy Now for $23.50) plus shipping

   > Opinion: Collector Lady Stark brings us several items today, many of them from our loved amazons. These beads (like most of her items) come with paperwork form the Turners Auction - which means they are almost always poorly identified. But they look very nice, don't they?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201300010288

- AMAZON NECKLACE AND EARRINGS SET

   > Character: Amazon/s
   > Material: Beads. Cord. Metal.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: lady.stark
Price: $50 (or Buy Now for $65) plus shipping

   > Opinion: More anonymous amazon jewelry. Price is higher here but I'd say quite reasonable. I'm sure someone will fancy them for sure :)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201300011521

- SET OF 2 BRACELETS

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Metal?
Papers: Not included (from Cousin Liz collection)
   Seller: lady.stark
Price: $50 (or Buy Now for $65) plus shipping

   > Opinion: This pair of bracelets come also from Turners, but with no paperwork. They were acquired through the famous collector Cousin Liz, probably after she passed away and all her collection was sold. Most of Cousin Liz's items came from Turners.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/191527663294

- SCREEN-USED COSTUME OF JOXER AS HAGAAR

   > Character: Joxer as Hagaar in S5 "Married with Fishsticks"
   > Material: Resin (with metal rod inside)
Papers: COA from It's a Wrap!
   Seller: lady.stark
Price: $600 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: This one is a one-of-a-kind. The pajamas worn by Ted Raimi as Hagaar in the infamous episode "Married with Fishsticks". It looks to be in very good condition. Quite a price, but you can make an offer if interested.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201302141976

- FX PROP SKULL

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Resin
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 188.33 € / $204.26 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: LOL these props are priceless! Fox&Unicorn (remember them from this entry?) always sell original stuff, but often quite bizarre.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331421179168

- WOODEN NECKLACE

   > Character: Amazon/s?
   > Material: Wood. Wooden beads. Cord.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 39.55 € / $42.90 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: More random jewelry from Turners. It could be amazon, or so I think. Most probably used by a secondary/background character.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/231487554148

- RED WINEGLASS

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Glass?
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 78.22 € / $84.84 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: This one is cool - a prop wineglass. It doesn't clarify if the material is glass or some kind of plastic, but probably the latest. Do ask before you bid, in case the shipping is long. I'm sure you don't want to receive it all shattered, just in case.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/231487559533

- SILK AND LEATHER ASIAN ARMGUARDS

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Silk. Leather.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 228.56 € / $247.90 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: These are my favorites today. The listing says "Asian" but they kinda look like they could've been used in the S4 India episodes. Very pretty and elegant, yes sir - but not cheap at all!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/231487569137

- WOODEN NECKLACE

   > Character: Amazon/s?
   > Material: Wood. Wooden beads. Cord.
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 69.86 € / $75.77 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: Another necklace (wow! so many today). What else can I say?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331465260813

- DANCER SKIRT

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Fabric
Papers: Includes Turners COA + A copy of the auction flyer
   Seller: fox-and-unicorn
Price: 119.80 € / $216.70 plus shipping (or Make Offer)

   > Opinion: This prop skirt is also unidentified. So no clue where it might have been used (Hercules? Young Hercules? Xena?). It probably was used several times in different episodes.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/231444120164

That's all for today. Hurry up if you want to bid, some of the items end today.

Stay tuned for more!

Monday eBay Roundup (XIV) - I'm back!

Home sweet home!

Sadly and happily at the same time, my travels have finished, at least for a while. So it's back to business for me, folks :) From now on that my life is more organized I'll keep the blog more updated - besides I have tons of overdue articles and content to share. Wait and see!

But for now, let's resume our lovely Monday Roundup (yay!). It's been a while, so there are quite many new things to take a look at. Let's see.

- CREATION ENT YIN YANG CHAKRAM #401 + TONS OF THINGS MORE

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: 401/500
   > COA: Included
   > Seller: julesnavymickey
   > Price: $117.56 ($123.50 already) plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: This chakram comes as part of a huge HUGE lot of Xena merchandising and memorabilia. And if you want my opinion, incredibly cheap (though the reserve price hasn't been reached yet). The lot includes a Marto Xena sword reproduction, a jacket, pendants, photos, bags... many many things. The chakram itself is a late creation replica, so it'll include the "NZ made" stamp, but includes the shadowbox and the COA. A great opportunity!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261644135758

- CREATION ENT YIN YANG CHAKRAM #245 + 2 FAN CLUB KITS

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: 245/500
   > COA: Included
   > Seller: lwil5117
   > Price: $550 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: Believe it or not, another lot of Xena stuff with a Y&Y chakram. This one is considerably more expensive, but: there's no reserve, the number is lower (hence there's no NZ engraving) and it also includes the intact shadowbox and the COA. $550 is not at all a crazy price for a Creation Ent chakram, so this is certainly a fair chance as well.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321571287147

- CREATION ENT ORIGINAL CHAKRAM #399

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: 399/500
   > COA: Included
   > Seller: fairview_collectables
   > Price: GBP 850 ($1,359.87) plus shipping

   > Opinion: Sigh. This is what happens when one goes away for a little while - too many chakrams! lol This time, a S4-ish original chakram also by Creation Ent, also with the COA. Do notice that it presents one of the rare shadowbox models that only later numbers included. Not so later to have a NZ made engraving, that is good. For me this is the more perfect original chakram model ever made by Creation (what I call the Third Generation chakram in my Comparisons) - but this particular piece is VERY pricey unless you have your salary in UK pounds.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121473791464

- CREATION ENT CHAKRAM COA

  > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: Not numbered
   > Seller: beatles-rock
   > Price: $50 (free shipping)

   > Opinion: This might not be a prop or replica itself, but it's very related to them, and I know many collectors will be interested on it. A Creation Ent chakram COA, valid for all models. It's usual to find chakrams without COA (often misplaced by previous owners and never found) so this might be a very good opportunity to "complete" your piece and add it a bit more of value.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/171526403829

- 10th ANNIVERSARY GOLD EDITION CHAKRAM #9

   > Manufacturer: Todd's Costumes
   > Number: 399/500
   > COA: Included
   > Seller: beatles-rock
   > Price: $1,250 plus shipping

   > Opinion: Also for sale this fancy and heavy Gold chakram produced by Todd's Costumes for Davis-Panzer during the 10th anniversary of the series. I mistakenly believed these chakram had been made by Marto of Toledo, but Todd Coyle clarified he's the real author of these pieces.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/311144216098

- ROMANS EMPIRE ORIGINAL CHAKRAM + GABRIELLE SAIS

   > Manufacturer: Romans Empire
   > Number: Unnumbered
   > Seller: romansempire
   > Price: $549.99 plus shipping

   > Opinion: I don't usually review Roman's listings because they are kind of always on eBay - but this is special. He's listed a deal including one of his original chakrams (I talked about it here) and a pair of his Gabrielle's sais replicas. Cool deal!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/271522722049

- BRASS VASE PROP

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Brass
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: socani
Price: $14.83 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: A cool and cheap brass vase anyone? It's a prop from the Turners Auction - and as usual it could have belonged either to Hercules (HTLJ), Xena (XWP) of Young Hercules (YH). Make sure to let me know if you spot it in any episode!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141454974233

- XENA PRODUCTION DESIGN BOOK: ORPHAN OF WAR

   Seller: lehtonen
Price: AU $249 ($218.87) plus shipping

   > Opinion: Production pieces are always way cool. This one comes from Australia, and for what the listing says it's a 15 pages document that includes diagrams and pictures of the village and the Ixion cavern from the episode "Orphan of War". There are also pictures drawn on the back of some pages. If you like this kind of prop this might be a good opportunity.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/301373744939

That's all for now. Many chakrams, huh?
Stay tuned, more to come soon enough!

Cheers!

Where's Waldo? (II): Help identifying this sword

Greetings people!

Hiraani, a Xenite from New Zealand, has sent me these photos of her prop sword and sheath to see if someone is able to identify them.

She adds this "It is a beautiful sword and it is unfortunate I didn't ask for more information from the person who I bought it from. All I was told is that it came from the Xena auction in West Auckland 2001. I am considering selling it."

Here you have the pictures she sent me. The sword is gorgeous, and has some very intricate carvings in the hilt, with wolves, snakes and skull reliefs.

The sheath is equally interesting.

As always, if you recognize these pieces from any episode, or you are interested in purchasing them, write a comment or contact Hiraani directly.

Her mail is: hiraanim@gmail.com

Thanks for the help guys!

>> EDIT: I found this same sword in the cover of "Life Lessons from Xena Warrior Princess". Want to know more? Check this follow up entry!

Where's Waldo?: Help identifying a couple of props

Hey people!

Fellow Xenite Sandra has written me asking for help. She wants to identify two props she got back in 2002: a dark leather skirt and a white leather belt.

Unless very iconic, props (and even more costumes) are tricky to spot. Items were often used in several episodes, and even in different series (as the prop department was the same for all Renaissance Pictures, it was normal to use props and costumes in all three Xena, Hercules and Young Hercules). COAs and accompanying papers are usually of little help too, as they tend to provide very simplistic descriptions.

So I've decided to continue a tradition started by the Xena Prop House and launch a new section called "Where's Waldo?". The idea is sharing all the pics and available info with you, to see if among all of us we succeed at helping Sandy, and eventually, other people.

Here you have some pictures. The skirt is made of two sides (back and front), each composed by four dark leather layers/petals adorned with metal rivets.

The white leather belt looks to be made to carry a sword with scabbard or any other kind of weapon, and also has rivets. It presents what looks to be a big "M" written in the backside.

Any clue? Do these props ring a bell for you? If they do or if you locate them in any episode, please don't doubt to tell me or write Sandra herself. Any kind of suggestion or clue will be appreciated.

Her mail is: sandra.plankey@snet.net

Please, collaborate! I'm sure together we can make it!

Monday eBay Roundup (IX)

Hello everyone!

If last Monday was full of new stuff, this one is not far behind. So many cool things, and some of them already full of bids. I'm sure many of you will be greatly interested. Let's see!

- ALTI'S PROP SWORD

   > Character: Alti in S4 "Between the Lines"
   > Material: Resin.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: myxenawp
Price: $100 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: I'd like to start this week's roundup with an interesting cut-off sword from the India episodes. The sword was heavily set used, and i presents very visible wear and tear, as expected. Price does compensate that, though, and given its origins (the sword comes from the well-known collector Cheri Wood aka Myxenawp, whose blog you can check and enjoy here) I'd say tho is a very good opportunity.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111339291306

- PROP SPEAR TOP

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Foam.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: myxenawp
Price: $25 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: The second item Cheri has listed is this spear top. Not a breathtaking prop, but it was set used, and costs only 25 bucks. I'm sure it'll interest someone out there.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111339310426

- ARTEMIS GUARD LEATHER KNEE PADS

   > Character: Artemis' s High Amazon Guard in S5 "Eternal Bonds"
   > Material: Leather. Metal rivets.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: myxenawp
Price: $25 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: You know, there's something I've always admired from Cheri, and that is her incredible ability to locate the tiniest of props through intensive observation of the series. One could say her superpower is locating the episode/s in which any prop was used! :) This is a good example, as these knee guards have been a mystery for some collectors for a time, until now.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111339322907

- METAL & LEATHER ARMBAND / HELMET WRAP

   > Character: Several characters in many episodes
   > Material: Leather. Metal.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: myxenawp
Price: $25 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: This prop has been used in many episodes. In the listing, Cheri mentions: "I have spotted it in Xena Season 2 ep "Warrior...Princess...Tramp" (1st screen grab) wrapped around one of the bad guys helmets, in Hercules Season 6 ep "Rebel Without A Cause" (2nd sceen grab) being worn by the Executioner and in the Young Hercules Series ep "Forgery" (3rd screen grab) on a customer seated at a table in a club. So this piece shows it was used on all three show sets. Too Cool!!!"

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111339329410

- BURLAP SACK

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Burlap. Metal. Leather. Rope.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: myxenawp
Price: $25 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: Horse and background prop lovers, this is your chance to own a burlap sack that smells like horses :) This kind of props are always fun to see!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111339335368

- SPOONS FROM THE SET

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Metal. Wood.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: myxenawp
Price: $10 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: I didn't even know if I was going to write about these spoons, but it turns out people are already bidding for them, so I guess there's interest for them out there. My opinion? Well, they are spoons. Used in Xena or Hercules, that much is clear. If you dig them, good luck!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111339358395

- AMAZON METAL NECKLACE

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Twine. Metal.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: myxenawp
Price: $10 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: I know many of you love jewelry props! This necklace is pretty is much cheaper than usual, so it's a good opportunity to own an amazon item.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111339374458

- ROPE EARRINGS

   > Character: Unknown
   > Material: Tan rope. Metal.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: myxenawp
Price: $10 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: These earrings are the last listing from Cheri. Modest earrings, at a very cheap price. Not much to say about them, though if you give Cheri some time I'm sure she'll spot them somewhere :)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/111339376476

- CREATION ENT YIN YANG CHAKRAM + XENA STUFF

   > Manufacturer: Creation Entertainment
   > Number: 180?/500
   > COA: Included
   > Seller: maybel8ter
   > Price: $299.99 plus shipping

   > Opinion: We are all familiar with Creation chakram by now. This one presents some wear on the paint (look at the photos, you can clearly see some paint has been scratched away in the S handle area), and doesn't include the black wooden shadowbox, although it does come with the brass plaque. Maybe the biggest attractive about this listing are the other Xena items that come along with the chakram, ideal for any person who wants to buy several Xena collectibles at once.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261467724622

- SCREEN-USED GABRIELLE PROP SCROLL

   > Character: Gabrielle. Other characters?
   > Material: Parchment. Resin. Wood?
   Papers: Not included
   Seller: baso
Price: $30 plus shipping ($79 right now)

   > Opinion: If you ask me, this is today's most interesting prop by far. I'm telling you it won't sell cheap. This is one of Gabrielle's trademark scrolls, and presents the typical designs seen throughout all seasons. The end caps are very distinctive. These particular caps look a bit rough and made of resin (I'd say foam, but I doubt they made foam props for this). They normally are attached to wooden rods that serve as the axises of the scroll. Seller clarifies this scroll is fixed and only rolls out partially. Gabrielle's scrolls are rarely seen, and are most treasured by many fans, so what are you doing standing there? Go and bid right now! :)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131178914878

- ORNATE ROMAN PROP SWORD

   > Character: Romans
   > Material: Resin with metal rod.
   Papers: Not included
   Seller: baso
   Price: $150 plus shipping

   > Opinion: It's necessary to clarify this listing only includes ONE sword, not two. Pics show both sides of the sword at the same time, but only one sword is for sale. I've always liked roman-style sword because they are very typical from Xena. The ornament in the hilt is identical to the one seen on Callisto's sword, and that's nice too. This one in particular has a lot of wear from set use, but I know many fans who think that gives "character" to a prop.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141272276768

- RHEINGOLD PROP SWORD

   > Character: Xena. Valkyries.
   > Material: Heavy foam rubber
   Papers: Not included
   Seller: baso
   Price: $200 plus shipping

   > Opinion: Again, only one sword, not two. Interesting stunt sword, made for the Norse episodes. Lucy Lawless used one herself, so who knows...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141272277519

- GABRIELLE'S MOLDED BUST FROM COFFIN

   > Character: Gabrielle (kind of) in S2 "Blind Faith"
   > Material: Heavy foam rubber
   Papers: Not included
   Seller: baso
   Price: $200 plus shipping

   > Opinion: I do prefer Gabrielle's scroll seen above, but this is the rarest prop here by far. It's 100% one of a kind. Made for the episode in which Gabrielle is supposed to marry a dead king, and meant to be burnt alive with his corpse. The bust was made based on Renee's face, or so they say. The coffin itself (as many others) was destroyed, but the bust has been preserved.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/141272290781

- SESKA'S PROP GAUNTLETS

   > Character: Seska in HTLJ S6 "A Wicked Good Time"
   > Material: Leather. Copper.
   Papers: COA from Turners
   Seller: michaelb8316
Price: $75 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: I don't normally talk about the same prop more than once. And we saw these gauntlets a few months ago, when Mike decided to sell his collection. But given it's still Mike selling them, and that the price has dropped quite a lot (original price was $300), I'd say this is a good opportunity to rethink if you want to add these beauties to your collection.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/131181397980

- 10th ANNIVERSARY GOLD EDITION CHAKRAM #9

   > Manufacturer: Todd's Costumes
   > Number: 0009/3500
   > COA: Included
   > Seller: us2014.vasi
   > Price: $299.95 plus shipping (only USA)

   > Opinion: 10th Anniversary Gold chakrams are rare, don't ask me why. I've seen only a handful of these in a long long time. I already talked about them in the third part of my Chakram Comparisons, so there's no much more to add save this has a VERY low number. Price is not bad, considering it comes in the original box and includes all the extras (COA and wall-mount).

You see? This week was long :) I must say it took a big deal of time to make, considering I have no time at all as of late. I hope to keep up the rhythm and publish some new entries soon.

Good hunting people!
